Choosing Joy in the Waiting

Choosing Joy in the Waiting

Have you ever been in a waiting season that lasted so long you started to feel weary? If you’re like me, you’ve been there—unsure how long you would remain in that place.

When we’re in a season of waiting and not properly anchored in our relationship with God, weariness can begin to affect our mind, body, and spirit. It shows up in subtle ways. We become short with a frustrating coworker. We feel too exhausted to keep up with our responsibilities. We stop fully showing up in our relationships.

Maybe you’ve experienced this before. Maybe you’re there right now.

There is no shame in feeling weary. But let me encourage you—there is hope in Jesus Christ.

We can choose joy instead of weariness.
We can choose joy instead of anxiety.
We can choose joy instead of sorrow.

How do we choose joy?

It begins with small, intentional shifts in our thoughts and actions. When we shift our focus from the problem to the One who provides the solution, we choose joy. When we stop dwelling on what we’ve lost during financial strain and instead thank God for what remains, we choose joy. When we pause instead of reacting emotionally, and turn our attention to the Word of God until peace fills our hearts, we choose joy.

Joy is a choice. It is not dependent on circumstances going well or everything feeling good. True joy grows when we continually invite God into the moments of our day—even in the waiting.

“Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.” — Romans 12:12

Your waiting season is not wasted. Choose joy right where you are.
